A saintly gimmick

Pope Francis has announced that Mother Teresa will be canonized as a saint on September 4.

How should one react to this news as an Indian ?

People are taking it as an achievement for India. Something akin to winning Nobel prize or may be much more than that.

I've a different view.

Her life was full of many controversies but let's not discuss those at this point.

She fulfilled the criteria of delivering two miracles. The 2nd one was  healing of a Brazilian man with multiple brain tumors after loved ones prayed to her. That miracle occurred after her death.

Now we have anti superstition act.
To be precise it's "The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013". It's a criminal law act for the state of Maharashtra , India , originally drafted by anti-superstition activist and the founder of
Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), Narendra Dabholkar.

This act clearly says that Creating the impression that a person has supernatural powers and compelling people to follow his/her orders is punishable.

So how could we celebrate a claim put forward by Mother Teresa ? It's akin to accepting superstitious beliefs.

It's a gimmick by traders of religion.

And last but not the least Mother Teresa was an evangelist.
